Celebrate African art, culture, cuisine, and music at the 37th Annual Africa in April Festival. Taking place in Memphis, TN from April 17 – 21st, the Africa in April Festival features an exhilarating parade down historic Beale Street and unforgettable experiences in Robert R. Church Park in Downtown Memphis. Visitors will dance alongside African drummers, enjoy live bands, and delight in the authentic flavors of West African cuisine as we celebrate this year’s honored country, The Republic of Gambia. We can’t wait to see you there.

The Republic of Gambia is this year’s honored country at the 37th Annual Africa in April Festival. Located on the coast of West Africa, The Gambia features diverse wildlife, beautiful flowers, and delicious produce like bananas, oranges, and mangos. More than 70% of its residents speak English, among other languages like Mandinka and Wolof. This year, we’re honoring The Gambia because of its amazing people, their thriving music scene, and their contributions to the world. Join us at the Africa in April Festival as we honor President Adama Barrow of Mankamang Kunda, as well as the 2.7 million people who call The Gambia home.

The Africa in April Dinner & Dance Party became a part of the official event line-up for Africa in April in 2024. The Dinner & Dance Party takes place in Memphis at a historically-relevant, black-owned institution on the 4th Thursday of April. Each year’s festive celebration includes a featured African DJ, live entertainment, and samples of African cuisine for tent guests. Produced and styled by a network of black-led organizations and creatives, the multigenerational affair is an opportunity to break bread, dance, and make memories in celebration of the African diaspora. Attire: Sunset Cocktail or traditional African garb encouraged. Note: Gambia, the 2024 Africa in April Dinner & Dance Party, will take place on the Brownlee Lawn at LeMoyne Owen College. Guests should plan shoes accordingly.
